A little about us…
Hello there and thank you for visiting our tiny corner of the internet!
I’m Hallie Polanco, the founder, owner, and director of The Family Room Learning Co, formerly The Family Room Brentwood. I started The Family Room in January of 2022 after briefly stepping away from my career as an Emergency Nurse. With the support of my family and some incredible friends, we launched our community space and humble class offerings. Our vision for “TFR” as we affectionately call our program, was born out of a desire to bring children and families back together in the wake of COVID-era distancing and isolation policies, while providing additional educational support outlets for the families in our community who were in search of alternative avenues outside of the mainstream education system.
We were blessed to spend the first handful of years operating in downtown Brentwood where we participated in & hosted a variety of community events, supported & partnered with other local small businesses, and built community relationships both inside and outside our walls. In the fall of 2024, we had the opportunity to bring our operations onto our private acreage after two grueling years spent rehabilitating the property. What a joy to share our “labor of love” with our students and their families! Situated on just under 2 fully fenced/gated acres, we have a classroom, lots of space for play, a garden, chickens, goats, rabbits, dogs, and cats. While we truly cherish our time spent in downtown Brentwood, the expanded space we are able to offer our students is our heart’s delight.
Because our program operates on our personal property, and we take the safety and privacy of our students VERY seriously, you will notice we do not share much publicly on our website or social media accounts. We have also learned over the years that our program's primary purpose is to nurture relational presence in lieu of building an online presence, so we are not particularly active on the socials. Do not fear! This doesn’t mean we are closed or no longer operating. We are simply laser focused on our goals of protecting and providing a flourishing childhood for our students, and nurturing the relationships with our TFR families and local community. We aim to establish lasting relationships among our families while supporting our students' curiosity, wonder, and education.
We currently host and accept students across the spectrum of abilities with the only requirement being their SAFE participation in classes. We believe all children, regardless of ability are inherently loved, worthy of dignity, acceptance, and inclusion. Please don't hesitate to reach out if your student has additional learning needs and you have questions about their participation.
On the next page, you will find our upcoming offerings for the 2026/2027 school year. One of the most wonderful features of our local homeschooling environment is the variety of classes, co-ops, groups, and available experiences. If our offerings do not suit your family’s needs - no problem! Our primary focus is to build community, so we are happy to try and help you find your people or groups. Feel free to reach out via the contact page with any questions. I just kindly ask that you allow 2-3 business days for a reply. If you think we missed you, you’re welcome to send a reminder email!
Thank you for reading this far. On behalf of our family and staff, we value your time.
-Hallie
